While I do not like C++ and prefer objective-c for this particular application templates are a handy tool and usage of c++ is understandable. This book also got me over aversion to the desktop open gl. If you like the oldies there is gles 1.1 coverage. If you know 2.0 is the future than this is the book to have also. Bonus: english seems to be the author's first language. he should write the gles 3.0 spec. wink, wink.
